This weekend

This weekend has been a wild one... The youth from our church are raising money for a water-well in Africa. So, on Thursday three of the high school boys came to our house for yardwork. It was great, they pulled weeds, mowed, and trimmed the bushes. If only we could hire them every weekend...

Friday, Nebraska Furniure Mart delivered our new coffee table/ottoman. We have been eyeing this piece of furniture for a while and it seemed like the right time now that Reegan is sitting and rolling around our living room. The table we used to have had very sharp corners and we didn't want to wait for the day that she started crawling/walking and hit her head. We love it!

All day Friday, Reegan was pretty lethargic and just wanted to be held. That afternoon I noticed that she was warm and really warm. I gave her tylenol and an hour later took her temp, it was 102 degrees. I called her pediatrician and since they didn't have any avaiable appointments I was told to take her to the urgent care at Children's Mercy. It turns out, our baby has her first ear infection. Lets just say that last few nights have been pretty rough, no one is getting much sleep.

Isn't she the smiliest sick child you have ever seen?

We weren't sure we were going to make it, but Saturday night we went to Matt and Jana's house for the 1st annual Backyard BBQ and obstacle course. I can't say we won, I can't even say that we were in the top 2/3. We actually came in dead last, but thats OK, we had fun anyway.
Jason focusing before attempting the balance beam, which by the way was the hardest part- I blame this on our terrible time!
We're finishing the weekend celebrating Jason's 27th birthday!

School has started

I am two weeks in and two tests down, school has officially started! I recieved my student nursing badge this week, so I must be legit. Right now I am in class Mon-Thurs full-time with a lot of homework and studying in the evenings and weekends. Leaving Reegan has been tough, but I know that it is well worth it. I start clinicals in 4 weeks, so if you find yourself at Monorah Hospital in a month, you may be my first patient :)

In addition to school, I have decided that I want to make my own babyfood. With a LOT of help from my mom, this week I made carrots, sweet potato, and applesauce. It was not very hard, but did take more time than I expected. Next week I plan to make peas, green beans, and squash. Reegan seems to like the vegetables more than fruit, which is fine with me!

Thanks to my friend Becca, I found a great website that gives recipes and directions for home-made babyfood http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/

First step is cooking the vegetable...

After cooking, puree it. The website says that you can use a blender or food processor. We used the "Ninja" and it worked great. It was so fast and easy.

Finally freeze it in ice-cube trays. When it is frozen, pop them out and store in a ziplock bag.
I am so glad that I decided to do this, it makes me feel good that I can make food for Reegan...I hope I keep this up!

Weekend Activities

The weekends have been jam-packed with outings and activities lately, so we thought we would catch you all up on some of the fun things we've been up to. First, a couple Saturdays ago we went to play Bocce Ball at a new place in Olathe - The Bocce Basement. I discovered the Basement somewhat randomly one day and thought it sounded fun. They have official-sized bocce courts and it's actually really cheap when you go with a group. We had a lot of fun playing!

This past weekend (actually Friday) we headed out to the "K" to see the Royals play. Reegan got all dolled up in her blue and white and was ready to go. We got to go with our friends Matt and Jana and their little boy, Cade.

Unfortunately, during the first inning it started to rain...and it rained...and rained...and rained...

Cade and Reegan were sad that they didn't get to see any baseball. :( But we'll try again another day.

On Sunday evening, we went over to the French household to celebrate birthdays for our friends Chris and Allison. Reegan had a blast playing with her friend Ellie!

All in all we've been having lots of fun as the summer is wrapping up, but now that Jess has started school I'm thinking we'll have to slow it down a bit. :)

6-Month Check-up

Even though Reegan turned six months old over a week ago, today was her appointment at the doctor. Since she is much "busier" these days, so had a blast while we waited for the doctor to come in and see her. Apparently we just need to get a bunch of tissue paper for her to play with at home...

An update on her "stats" - She's now weghing in at 16 lbs., 7.5 oz. and measuring 26-3/4" tall! That puts her in the 55th percentile in weight and 75th percentile in height. She's right on track and the doctor has given the go-ahead for all kinds of new foods!! We'll let you know how that goes soon. :)

Sending My Girls Off to School

Life has changed quite a bit around our house this week. Both Jess and Reegan officially started school! Monday was Jess' first day of her 1-year nursing program at the Research College of Nursing. I am so excited and proud for her to be taking this on! I've always given her a bit of a hard time for packing heavy for school, but I think she out-did herself on Monday...she had a backpack filled to the brim, a bag for extra books to study with, a bag of workout clothes, and her pump! Probably about an extra 30 lbs. to lug around. :)

Then today, Reegan started her first day at "school" too! OK, really it's just daycare, but they call the ladies who watch her "teachers" so I'm sticking with it. Reegan was really excited this morning for me to take her in the car as you can tell from this picture! Her teachers said she did wonderful and was a happy, happy girl (as usual btw...). This girl never seem to stop smiling, unless, of course, it's bedtime in which case she still tries to fight going to sleep a bit. But as far as school, her first day was a huge success!!

After her long day at her new school, I came home and took her for a little 3-mile run in the BOB. She crashed hard about half way through...

1/2 a year old

Thats right, Reegan is 6 months old today! It doesn't seem possible. I feel like she has been a part of our family for years and years. I say this all the time, but Reegan becomes more and more fun as time passes. She has such a big personality for such a little body. Here are just a few things that she is up to these days.

*Reegan can sit all on her own and has started using the highchair when we go to restaurants
*She is obsessed with anything in a cup or mug. If you drink in front of her, she will want whatever it is you have
*Reegan now eats cereal, sweet potato, squash, and banana (she is absolutely her father's daughter and prefers anything to the vegetables)
*Reegan loves watching baseball (again her father's daughter). If a game is on TV, she will stop whatever activity she is doing and watch the game.
*She loves feeling different textures and will rub her fingers over whatever it is over and over again.
*Loves the dogs, she always leans towards Bella whenever she walks by. Unfortunately for Reegan and fortunately for us, the dogs don't really pay much attention to her. In fact, I think Reegan just found out last week that Ginger exists.
*Does not like to take naps, she sleeps an average of 2 hours during the day (30-45 min naps). Then she crashes at night and goes to sleep between 7 and 8pm.
*Does not like to have a dirty diaper, will get fussy as soon as she goes to the bathroom
*Loves to stand, but hasn't figured out that she can pull herself into a standing position, instead she grabs our hands and pulls herself up.
*Favorite thing to do is jump, we have a doorway jumper and exersaucer that she could spend the whole day in.
*Reegan has started giving us kisses (or her version of kisses), she grabs our face with both hands and presses her mouth to our cheek. I love it!!!
*Our girl is always on the move, we know if she is going to fall asleep only because she stops moving. Holding her is quit the arm workout, she is always twisting and turning to see everything that is around her.

Susan G Komen

Yesterday a bunch of us went out to Union Station for the Susan G Komen 5K. It was great, here is a picture before the run with Jason's mom and brother. My parents were also there supporting the cause. This course was really difficult, a lot of hills! Its a good thing this is a picture from before the run and not after, after was not a pretty picture...it was HOT!

Here is Reegan, she is quite the seasoned walker. Look at those eyes, I hope they stay this blue forever!
She's so stylish :) I was impressed, she kept her sunglasses on for a long time!

Big News!!!

Ok, so I know that title is very loaded and can mean a lot of different things...

We're pregnant again...Gosh no- thats definitely not it, in fact I can't even think about baby #2 until I can get a full-night sleep again.

Reegan is so advanced and walking at 6 months old...nope thats not it either

Alright here it is, ready for it? We won a 4 day, 3 night cruise tonight at the t-bones baseball game!!! It's unbelievable! Neither of us have ever won anything like this before, and it is SO exciting. We don't have all of the details sorted out yet, but we do know that we're going in December to somewhere in the Caribbean. We'll keep you posted on the details once we have them. :)

We've been busy!!

The last few weeks have flown by and it is hard to believe that I only have one more week at home with my baby. I knew this day was going to come, but I didn't think I would be this sad about it. I keep thinking maybe I'll defer for a year, but I have been told many times by Jason, that it is not an option...the bank account can't handle me staying at home for another year!

Like babies do, Reegan is growing and becoming such a big girl! We had to stop using the kitchen sink bathtub because she kept pushing herself out of it and wanting to stand up. Now, we use her large turtle sponge in the sink. She seems to like this even more, she kind of lays herself back and is much more chill about it all. Next stop is the actual bathtub!!!

This past Friday afternoon, I went to a friends house for a wonderful lunch with some friends from college. It's so fun being able to share this new phase of life with them. Below are the babies, Reegan is on the left, Cade in the middle, and Alexa is on the right. Cade and Alexa are only 12 days apart and obviously much smaller/younger than Reegan by 3 months. This picture was only moderatly hard to get, Reegan kept trying to roll over onto Cade and kept reaching for his face. Alexa has an older sister who was taking a nap at the time, so she is used to the chaos!
Saturday we headed to Branson for the weekend with my family. On the way we stopped at a restaurant named Lamberts for some southern cooking and roll throwing. It was good, but the almost 2 hour wait was not so fun...luckily there was a cheese factory next door so we took our time and looked around. Jason gave Reegan a ride and she thought she was hot stuff being so tall. During the wait Reegan played so hard, that as we were walking to our table she feel asleep and stayed asleep for the entire meal! It doesn't get any better than that.
Once in Branson Reegan got in some play time before we headed out again. She sure loves Dalton, she always is trying to grab at his face (this must be a sign of endearment, she seems to be grabbing everyone's face lately).
Once again she played so hard she fell asleep at the Dixie Stampede that evening.
Sunday morning, we woke up and headed out to a Duck tour (goes on land and water). Our 70 min tour ended up being 2 hours, 15 minutes because we hit a ton of traffic and then our duck-mobile broke down so we had to wait for another one. Luckily the driver and tour was very entertaining, so we didn't mind too much. Reegan loves a crowd and the more thats going on the better, so she was great the whole time...so much for her to look at.
Once again, here she is fast asleep, poor thing didn't look very comfortable, but she stayed asleep for over an hour.
I know that Reegan will never remember these trips, but I love knowing that we have these pictures to share with her.
