Blueberries

We are busy crossing things off the summer bucket list. This truly has been one of my most favorite summers ever. The kids are at a great age where everywhere they look is something new and exciting and watching them is my most favorite thing. Last week we went to the blueberry fields to pick some fresh blueberries. The kid loved it, but since their attention span is about 3 minutes, I may have loved it more.

We went with our best friends Haylee, Cade, Reese, and baby Landon who obviously enjoyed it since he was awake the entire time!

Reegan's request was blueberry scones with the multitude of berries we brought home and we've been munching on them daily! Good times with good friends. We look forward to hopefully making this a yearly tradition!

Ice cream and fountains

We took Gavin out to dinner, ice cream, and to play in the fountains on his birthday. It was low-key and so him. He loves to eat and loves being outdoors. No words needed, his eyes say it all!

I love these little people so much and it is so enjoyable celebrating them!

Gavin is 2

The baby of our family is growing and turned 2 last week. What a joy he has been the last 2 years. Gavin is so smart and is more observant than we often give him credit for. I can't believe the things I see him do and he is so active, often hanging and dangling from things and throwing himself over the furniture. Gavin loves airplanes and can hear and spot them before most of us can. Also loves school buses and blue cars.
Gavin loves to eat. I've said it before but if the kid is cranky, chances are it's only because he needs a little food. Once he's eaten he's back to his normal, happy self.
Gavin loves to be with Reegan and is happy playing with anything she wants to play with. He follows her around and wants to be just like her. At soccer practice, he will find someone to kick the ball to. They really are the best of friends!
Gavin is a clown, he loves to make us laugh and makes silly facial expressions all the time. I can't get enough of him.
Jason and I think Gavin has some true athletic ability. He swings a baseball bat with general ease and very little direction and loves to throw and kick a ball. We are excited to get him involved next summer and see what he enjoys doing.
Gavin knows what he wants and what he doesn't and isn't afraid to let us know. He has started giving me his opinion on his clothes when I ask and does not like me to sing the ABC song to him. He covers my mouth and says no no no.  He has his specific books that are his favorite and toys that he loves the most and makes sure no one takes those from him.
Gavin is not much of a cuddler, basically because he doesn't want to sit still for more than a minute at a time. However he says "I you" (I love you) multiple times during the day and I can usually get a few  hugs and kisses out of him as he's passing by me and headed to the next toy.

We love you Gavin! You are my favorite little boy and I am so happy to spend every day with you. You make life exciting and keep me on my toes. Happy birthday little guy!

Soccer - Year 2

Months ago, Reegan and I looked through the Olathe Parks and Rec catalog to pick out a couple of summer activities. We decided to take the summer off from gymnastics and experience a couple other things. First up was soccer. Reegan was so excited for soccer and had been practicing, but the first lesson was pretty much what we have come to expect from Reegan. She sat on the sidelines and cried if we asked her to go out on the field by herself and instead just watched the rest of the kids. Lesson number 2 revealed a totally different kid, one who was ready to run out there and join her teammates, one who follows every direction from the coach, and who tries her hardest.

I don't quite understand the reasoning behind this change in behavior but i'ts very predictable. Maybe she just needs to be prepared before she feels comfortable enough to participate or maybe she just has some anxiety about trying something new. I have no idea, but week 2 and all weeks since then have been great and she has done SO good.

We are so proud of her and love going to watch her play. I am totally OK with being a soccer mom!

Our first home

We are well on our way to making our new house, our new home but I can't get our first house out of my head. I still subconsciously turn the wrong way when I am leaving work, or go the wrong direction on the highway headed back to this house. This house was the place I came back to for almost 7 years. Our starter (we'll be here for 3-5 years) house became the place we brought our two babies home too. The place they learned to walk and the place we made some pretty grown up decisions in.

I am so excited for this next phase and the potential of our new house to be our forever home. It is slowly coming together. It is so great seeing my children explore our new surroundings and see their excitement match Jason and I's excitement. This first home will also hold a special place in my heart, but I know this house is going to hold even more events, challenges, and memories. I am excited to see what the future holds for us.
