Jason's weekend job!

Since college Jason has been reffing basketball on the weekends. He really enjoys it and does a great job. This past week I promised that I would come out to watch him in action. I am sure it is not very common that the refs have an audience. On my way to the game, Jason called and warned me that it was a 6th grade girls game. Not his favorite to ref and I must say not the most exciting or talented game I have seen!

Much to Jason's horror I brought my camera in attempt to take pictures of him. However, it was difficult to get good shots of Jason without making it obvious that I was taking pictures of the referee not of the players! I think they turned out very well. Bad news is that I may not be invited to come watch any of his games for a while!

Here is the latest picture that was taken about a week and a half ago at 36 weeks. I feel like I am huge and looking at this picture I don't think I can get any bigger!

Another First

Well, tonight I had another first. It seems I am having a lot of those the past few months. Today's first, however, was not as enjoyable as some of the others! Tonight was the first night of my spring semester classes. When I arrived in class, I realized that I no longer can fit in the desk. How humiliating! I tried to slide in, but could not make it. As most of you know, a pregnant belly does not squish, it stays in one spot. So, there I was sitting on about a quarter of the chair, body turned in a weird angle because I was trying to stay on the chair and the corner of the desk poking me in the belly. A girl sitting a couple of rows over started laughing which caused the rest of the class to start laughing at me, because I looked so uncomfortable. I was thinking that there was no way I could sit in that position for 2 1/2 hours, so a few of us started brainstorming how I could make it work! Luckily for me, I could take part of the desk apart, so I could sit comfortably, however, this left nothing for me to rest my notebook on while I was writting. So, that made for a new challenge. I almost have to rest my notebook on my stomach. Fortunately, I only have a couple weeks of this!

Baby Shower Pictures

Here are the much anticipated pictures from the baby showers that I have attended. These first 2 pictures are from one that was thrown for me this past Saturday. The food was amazing, I wish I had a picture to share with you! It was a lot of fun. The first picture is of my mom and Jason's mom. The second picture is of all of my friends that were wonderful enough to bless me by attending.

These next few pictures are from last Saturday at a shower with my family. Once again the food was delicious and the decorations were beautiful! Also, isn't this the cutest diaper cake you have ever seen? I really need to learn how to make these!

These next pictures are from the couples shower that was thrown by some great friends from church.

The winners of the relay race, don't they look cute with their pregnant balloon bellies?

Busy baby weekend!

Jason and I had a very busy weekend getting things ready for the baby. Because of Christmas and New Years, everything had to be postponed until after the New Year and this past weekend everything fell together.

Friday night some dear friends from Church threw us a couples baby shower. Even though it had been snowing for the previous 3 days, we still had a great turn out. We even played a game where the wives had to be blind-folded and feed the husbands a cup of pudding. After that, the men blew up a balloon (supposed to be the same size as my belly), put it under their shirts and try to tie their shoes. It was a funny, funny game!

Saturday, a friend of my mom's and my aunt Lisa, threw me a baby shower. This was a lot of fun because it involved family and it was great having everyone together. The decorations were cute and there were balloons that I have never seen before (I will try to post pictures this weekend). Lisa made the cutest baby face cake and cupcakes. I feel very blessed that so much time and effort was dedicated to making these 2 showers special for me! Saturday evening (Jason was reffing a basketball tournament), my mom came over and helped me organize and set up the nursery. All of our little girls clothes have been washed (thanks mom) and the bookshelf organized, etc. This coming weekend Jason and I hope to put the finishing touches on everything, so we will post pictures as soon as we can.

Sunday afternoon, we attended an Infant Care Class that my aunt Lisa put on for us. We covered a lot of great information and helped us to feel more comfortable for when the baby gets here. Well, as comfortable as you can be practicing with a doll and not a real baby. I am most nervous about giving the baby her first couple of baths and I know Jason is nervous about changing a diaper, since he has been fortunate enough to never do this before. I have had LOTS of practice, so he can change as many diapers as he needs too! Monday evening we went back up to Olathe Medical Center for our pre-admittance appointment. I think it is such a great idea that they do this early, I could not imagine filling out all of those forms and answering questions when I am in the middle of having contractions. This weekend was a lot of fun, but very overwhelming...so much information and tips, I hope we remember it all!

34 Weeks Down...6 (or less) To Go!

We're on the home stretch these days until our little girl arrives. Jess is now at week 34 and we are realizing that it could really be any day now the our family gets 50% bigger! Here's the most recent picture of Jess...

This was taken just before we headed off to our day-long child birthing class!! We spent all day over at the hospital learning all about what we can expect during labor and delivery. For me, it was a very educational experience. I learned a ton about what happens with mom and baby, and how I can be the best coach/partner anyone has ever seen. Jess on the other hand, may have only taken a much larger amount of FEAR from the class! I'm not sure that hearing over and over how much everything will hurt before, during, and after labor made her very excited to get that process going. At least she will hopefully have a few more weeks before she has to deal with all of that. :)

We actually did learn a lot of very interesting stuff. For instance, the average labot last between 12 and 14 hours - Jess is definitely hoping for less than that. Also, I found it amazing that nowadays over 2/3 of all women use an epidural to eliminate having to go through the pain. I didn't realize the number would be that high, but I also can't say that I would blame any one of them! Jess' favorite part of the day was getting to learn and pratice some new relaxation and massaging techniques. She just layed on the floor, closed her eyes, and I rubbed her arms and back. The teacher said to continue praticing all of these things between now and the time she goes into labor, but we'll have to see about that. ;)

We were told to take pillows and a mat to lay on, but contrary to my belief, they were not for me to nap with. :)
